The Luminous Embrace

A Context for Transformation

Everyone has a way of describing something called 'transformation'. What is this magical thing?

There's a way of enquiring that I call transformation. There's a way of enquiring, or a way of being engaged with something such that I am empowered with respect to it, rather than being able to talk about it afterward.  Who cares if I got the answer -- there is no such thing as the right answer, anyway!

It's what happens to my view of my world, and my relationship with myself, and the issues that are important to me -  and the whole experience of the enquiry in which my view of life takes a quantum jump.

A Japanese philosopher and Martin Heidegger in dialog:  We Japanese do not think it strange if a dialog leaves undefined what is really intended or even restores it back to the keeping of the undefinable.

Heidegger responds: That is part of what I think has turned out well between every thinking being.

What Heidegger means by thinking is diferent from what anybody means by thinking.

"As if of its own accord," Heidegger says, " It can take care that that undefinable something not only does not slip away, but displays its gathering force ever more luminously in the course of the dialog."

That's the methodology of the transformational enquiry. Not a definition, not a description, not a story, NOT AN UNDERSTANDING, but what ever it is, it displays itself, not like something to look at, SOMETHING TO BE
.

The Japanese says, " Our dialogs with our teachers probably fail to turn out so well. We younger men challenged him much too directly, to satisfy our thirst for handy information."

(Me: We are a culture that listens for 'handy information'.

Me: Well, It's something useless if you can't use it for something, isn't it?

Me: Maybe, what empowers people cannot be used by them.

Me: Maybe we need a listening for something powerful, and not for something useful.)

Heidegger responds: The thirst for knowledge and a greed for explanations never lead to a thinking enquiry. Curiosity is always the concealed arrogance of a self consciouness that banks on a self invented rationality.

(Me:You think that you were born in such a way that anything that is valid, you are going to understand. Therefore, anything that you don't understand must be invalid.)

Heidegger: The will to know does not abide before what is worthy of thought.

(Me: This will for tips, how am I doing, looking for presciptions, how does this apply, how am i going to fix it -- handy information --  is no will to be with what is worthy of being with - it is different from the will for knowledge, or for useful information.)

This is one of the things that I'm taking on for this year, this listening for something powerful, as another way of listening to my universe.

Yes, that's nice! And when I'm generating, and at the source of my own 'trance', I'm 'entranced' or have entrance to, or access to a whole new view of my world! Thanks for that!
