Tune Into Power

Posted on Mar 19th, 2007 by Praveer : ~ Frisson ~ Praveer
Most of us struggle daily to pay the bills, keep our jobs, and maintain our peace of mind. Wouldn’t you love to say goodbye to these endless preoccupations and greet the dawning of each day knowing that you have an exceptionally satisfying and empowered eperience of being alive?

If you enjoy the sensation we humans call success, you need to ask yourself questions about your life.

What are you currently using your life for? What would you live for? What would you die for?

And how do you answer these question?

Let me ask - do you know what the most visited part of a book store is, anywhere in the world?

If you said - the the "How to" section" - give yourself 100 points!

I wonder how many 'How to...' books there are in libraries and bookstores around the world. Probably somewhere in the hundreds of thousands. "How to Make a Million", "Think and Grow Rich", "Rich Man, Poor Man", "What They Don't Teach You at Harvard", and many, many others are available. Check your book collection at home or your office drawer - maybe you have a copy of a book that let's you know the big secret to success. I have read many such books avidly in the past, and my experience of then has been rewarding, to some extent. They do inspire, with vivid stories of victories over defeat, and the tell you, step-by-step, what it took the author to accomplish his or her victories.

Before I actually went through a process that altered my life, and in which I authored my own purpose in life, I would read these books and as I said, be inspired by them. But a few moments after finishing the book, or a few days, or weeks later, the inspiration wold evaporate, and I would be back at the agonizing survival grind, struggling with work that I hated, or results that just would not happen.

It's a curious thing, these "How To" books. Have you ever asked yourself -"If the 'secret' of success is out, how come I keep failing!" And, shouldn't everyone be successful - now that the 'secrets' are available to everyone? Or, at least to everyone who can read?

Or does it take something else?

Maybe we've become a culture - across the globe - that's looking for 'handy' information. Maybe, we're just listening for something to use.

You could be saying to yourself - "Well, it's something useless if you can't use it for something, isn't it!"

Consider, for the moment, what empowers people cannot be used by them[.

Maybe, just maybe, it takes more than listening for something that you can use.Perhaps we need a listening for something powerful and not useful.

It might just be that looking for tips, asking "How am I doing", looking for presciptions, asking - "How does this apply, how am I going to fix it" -- this looking for handy information -- is no will to be with what is worthy of being with. It is different from the will for knowledge or useful information.

Here's another way to 'listen' to your favorite quotations

If you've looked at inspirational quotations and scoured them, from time to time, for something to 'fix' in your life, here's an invitation. Step away from your usual way of listening to quotations as tips, guidelines, clues, or even as "something that calls me, and speaks to me".

Listen for something powerful in each of the following quotations from people who have accomplished something extraordinary with their lives. They are business men and women, artists, physicists, rock stars, poets, painters, writers, life coaches and more. It may be a little difficult at first. That's good - you may never have listened to what is being said in this way before, and there is something here for you to discover... It may feel pointless, and a waste of time to you to look at these quotations without vetting them for 'usefulness' - but take the case that it is complete arrogance to think that you were born in such a way that anything that is valid you are going to understand. Therefore, anything that you don't understand must be invalid!

Even worse is another way of listening, and that is to listen for -- relief! For self gratification. To justify something 'bad' that happened. I promise you, there is nothing in those ways of listening for you or for some area in your life that yo really want to impact.

So just listen for something powerful here. Get present to the lives of these human beings, if you know a little about them, and to their accomplishments, and to what it might have taken on their part to experience the thoughts that they think.

Listen for what their purpose and their vision of their lives might be like, what they may have sacrificed, given up, forgiven about themselves, or about other people, what they might have let go of ... and what was at stake for them.

What would it be like to wake up in the morning like one of them? What would they be thinking? Doing? What would they be having?
