January Blur

Blur Sample
Duration: 7 days
(Cast: Panda - my wife; Dwarf - household help; Taxi Driver - taxi driver; Jeannie - Rapunzel, Digbijoy - my son,  sundry others)

I came back from a meeting to find Panda in rivers of sweat, shivering, complete disorientation - hypoglycemic coma, last tuesday. The dwarf and I ( I must use as that as a title one of these days) stuck a spoon of sugar in her mouth and bundled her into a taxi and headed for the hospital just down the road. Panda protested. She insisted that we go to a shopping mall instead. Also just down the road. The taxi driver (we have a neighbourhood taxi stand) sympathised with her and said:  You were fine just yesterday. Her blood sugar was 7 in the emergency ward. They said if we'd brought her in half an hour later, she'd have been brain dead. Wednesday they threw her out of the ICU into a room. Disoriented, she'd yelled for pizzas, biscuits, sandwiches, her glasses, a book several times during the night. So they very kindly informed me. She settled into her room well with a centerline drip for glucose and other yummies like antibiotics and stuff. By saturday they'd completed tests on blood, thyroid, other bits and pieces that they hadn't done earlier. Then they let her loose again, in pretty good form. She's coming off steroids, her sugar levels fluctuate, so either the dwarf or I play darts with her arms with the insulin pen-injection before meal times. The neighbourhood ironing lady who has a little lean-to shack just outside our flat is fascinated and wants to play to, but Panda's a spoil sport - won't let her.

I remember other bits as December/January flashed by: my birthday (really moving cards from Panda and Digbijoy); two other trips to the hospital; Digbijoy taking complete charge of the paperwork, efficiently and carefully; Digbijoy planting himself in the hospital room for his night shift with his own blanket like Linus; a warm family get together at my brother's home in between; playing with my new camera phone and being horribly diappointed with the results; calling one of my best friends, in January and in February both times on the wrong day to say Happy Birthday; getting my favorite nieces' birthday right; tearing up my business plan and working on it afresh; finishing the painting and woodwok in the house just before Christmas; and finally, today, chilling out at a client's plush restaurant with my feet up on a windowsill overlooking a sunlit winter garden, strangely peaceful in spite of all the drama.

Thanks Jeannie. Its all coming back now.

Oh no, thank you. I've missed you!
Although given the month you describe, well, I totally understand. I might not put blogging at the top of my list either.
Should we send you and Panda magic talismans or odd rocks or dreams written onto ribbons or anything else that might be useful? I wish I knew something I could do that would really be helpful.
I could make fantastical dart boards to be worn as clothing, or issue random birthday announcements unencumbered by actual anniversary dates or I could make a fabulous mosaic out of the bits of your business plan gone awry….
Just let me know.
I'm so glad to hear that you're still out there, even with all that's going on.

Wow - all of the above please! Panda's favorite is the odd rocks - that way she gets to throw something at the dwarf and me while we play darts with her. I'll take the Magic talismans - they go a looong way at averting odd rocks when they're thrown at you. The dwarf, Ranbir is sick of picking up my torn up business plans. He's not really a dwarf. Where he comes from - Garhwal, high in the Himalaya mountains - most people are in the four foot range, cows and fruit trees, too. Pine and chestnut trees are their usual towering size though. He says business plans are for people who think too much - the dream ribbons are much, much better. Maybe a mosaic dream ribbon? And I love the random birthday generator - I think I'll arbitrarily pick a day of the week to shoot out ten birthday greetings a week - that should cover my entire email list for the year. Oh, yes the fantastical dart board is an incredible fashion statement. Could get a bit porcupiney with all the needles and evolve, if you know what I mean?

And blogging was actually on the top of my list - I just didn't know where to begin!

Thanks Kathryn - sorry for the delay - maybe its the new Gaia site which first gives me an 'Ooops! I Did It Again' message and then clenches its teeth on my cursor and refuses to budge!

Good to see you, Joyce - Panda's on the mend now, and things were getting a little dull around here. So my son and his fiancee decided that it was time to take their plan to get married off the back burner and go for it while the going's good! March 6th is when it happens And then again on the 10th I am up to my ears in wedding arrangements, card printing, couriering, catering, arranging schedules for a Vedic rites marriage as well as a Christian blessing, and dealing with tantrums about the colors of various kinds of wedding attires, flower choices, food and beverages … sure could use some of that  FAith and Hope you mentioned 'cause I ain't never done this stuff before! Except deal with tantrums that is. Details on my blog later!

And all my Gaia friends are invited cordially by Panda and me!
